Modern Refuge is indie rock on an expansive scale, with songs that unfold and build with orchestral power. The band formed in the vibrant music scene of Connecticut and has quickly become an unmissable live act. They are known for their immersive performances, introspective lyricism, on-stage chemistry, and cinematic sound fitting for candlelit rooms and arenas alike. Their energy is often compared to the high-energy rock acts of the 70s.

They have opened for international touring acts including Collective Soul, Sammy Hagar and The Circle, George Thorogood & The Destroyers, Talk, and Rozzi.

Their debut album, Runaway Dream, was released on August 1, 2025.  It received an incredible response with critics remarking "It’s an album you don’t just hear — you feel it in your chest, in the back of your throat, in the long quiet moments after it ends. Modern Refuge has created something special here: a dream you’ll want to fall back into again and again" (Syncho Agency) and ' “Wave Empire” is the first time (but not the last!) when Winfield reminded me of Stevie Nicks, and in fact the song has a Rumours-era Fleetwood Mac sound, like a more interesting version of “Dreams.” ' (Pitch Perfect).  They are currently working on their much anticipated second album.
